2008 Ursa Class Schedule
and Class Descriptions
The Ursa Foundation, founded in 1976 is a non-profit 501 (c) (3)
foundation providing advanced continuing education to health care
professionals. All enrollees must be licensed, registered or
certified with statutory authority to apply the techniques learned.
Our philosophy is that the body is a functional unit and should be
evaluated as such. Ursa courses are clinically oriented and
scientifically based. Courses emphasize a "hands-on" approach in a
low pressure learning situation, offering clinicians the opportunity to
learn techniques and strategies to achieve a successful manual practice.
Ursa courses provide you with information to help you improve the quality
of patient care and expedite the rehabilitation of athletes.
We are excited to announce the addition of Lino Cedros, ATC, MT as a
Senior Faculty of the Ursa Foundation. Lino will be teaching courses
in Sacramento, CA and these classes will follow the same high standards
found in all Ursa courses.
Ursa classes offer refreshments prior to the start of class, mid-morning
and afternoon snacks are also proveded. We are now in our 32nd year
of providing outstanding continuing education classes. We would like
to thank you for your continued support and interest in quality
professional education.
The 2008 schedule is shown below. To register, please
use the Mail-in Registration Form link provided
below the Class Descriptions.
The
Washington Osteopathic Medical Association
co-sponsors Ursa Foundation courses.
Ursa
Foundation is a NATABOC approved provide.
We look forward to seeing you in 2008!

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
for
2008 CLASSES:
Bear
Looks at: Electrical Phenomena of Cranium:
This course will review the differing concepts of cranial treatment and
will
present information on the “Bear” approach to cranial based on the concept
that his type of treatment is essentially electrical in nature.
Loren H. “Bear” Rex, D.O (Sold
Out)
Bear Looks at: Head and Neck Biomechanics
from an Orthogonal Point of View:
The Head and neck class will introduce biomechanics from an orthogonal
point of view
and would
look at the parasympathetics from the Head and Neck superiorly.
Loren H. “Bear” Rex, D.O. (Sold Out)
Treating the Pelvis and Sacrum:
The goal of this class is to present concepts of motion of the pelvis,
sacrum
and lumbar spine as it applies both to normal biomechanics and
dysfunctional
motion.
Several treatment concepts will be presented including muscle energy,
inhibitory
technique, and other manual techniques associated with normalizing
biomechanical dysfunction.
Lino Cedros, ATC, MT
Embryology for the Manual Practice:
This course will cover material from the Silver Series condensed into
lectures
of the Embryology of humans with special emphasis on how the manual
practitioner
can use the concepts in their practice. By understanding patterns of
development
and connections between the systems of the human body, it is possible to
make
manual treatment more effective overall. By the end of this course the
student
will have an appreciation of how events occurring in the stages of
development
apply
to the treatment of patients.
Loren H.
”Bear” Rex, D.O. (Sold
Out)
Pottenger’s Concepts of Visceral Disease:
The goal of this class is to present
concepts of dysfunction utilizing
embryologic
concepts of developmental segmentation of the visceral system. Assessment
and treatment will be based on scientific methodology related to visceral
dysfunction
and treatment. The student will be Able to use several
strategies
to ascertain
information to provide rational treatment.
Lino Cedros, ATC, MT
Manual Treatment for the Sympathetic & Parasympathetic
Ganglia:
Dysfunction of
the parasympathetic and Sympathetic
Nervous systems co-exist,
to varying degrees, with biomechanical problems. This class outlines when
to
consider
autonomic imbalance with opportunity to practice new treatment
techniques.
There will be information on the differential diagnosis of conditions
affecting these ganglia
that present as problems or
mimicking disorders of the
biomechanical integrity of the body.
Loren H. ”Bear” Rex, D.O.
Treating Movement Dysfunction in Sports & Athletics:
The goal of this class is to
present concepts of sports medicine from
the
perspective
of the Ursa concepts of the biomechanics
of ambulatory, throwing,
and water sports.
Normal biomechanics and dysfunctional motion will be
discussed with
relation to
adaptive dysfunction that leads to common
injuries presented within the
clinical
setting. Several Manual treatment
concepts will be presented associated
with
normalizing biomechanical
dysfunction. Concepts
of treatment and return to function will be discussed.
Lino Cedros, ATC, MT
(Sold
Out)
Treating the Thoracic Spine, Ribs and Sternum:
The goal of this class is to present
concepts of motion of the thoracic spine,
ribs and sternum
as it applies both to normal biomechanics and dysfunctional
motion.
Several treatment concepts
will be presented including Muscle energy,
inhibitory techniques
associated with
normalizing
biomechanical dysfunction.
